Russia Warns of ‘Massive Retaliation’ After Large-Scale Drone Incursion
This drone attack from Ukraine was the biggest one since the beginning of the total war. The strike involved almost 200 drones being fired towards Moscow (as part of 1,000 drones and four cruise missiles being intercepted in Russia during 24 hours). The attacks hit the Kapotnya refinery in southeast Moscow for the third time that month, leading to massive explosions and creating black oily residue falling down in the neighborhood. Despite the denial by Moscow authorities concerning the "oil rain," vulnerable citizens were advised to evacuate or close their windows. The strikes wounded 17 people in the Moscow region, hit another oil depot in Rostov (causing one death), resulted in closing all four Moscow airports, and started a fire in an adjacent shopping center. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that this was a retaliation for Russia's attack on the Pechersk Lavra monastery of Kyiv, intending to "bring the war home" to regular Russians. As a result, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he would launch massive-scale retaliations against Ukraine.
